When traveling with a toddler, baby or kids even….I’m sure the last place you’d think of is Las Vegas. It is called Sin City after all. Las Vegas is known for gambling, alcohol, clubs, late nights, parties, excess, but there really is a whole other side to Vegas….and it’s definitely family friendly!
Garret and I have been going to Las Vegas since we started dating. It was our first trip together, and we even got married there! I’ll be honest, Vegas WITHOUT kids is definitely a different experience WITH kids, but it’s still fun.
Our first trip to Vegas 9/2008
The biggest reason we go often is we get free rooms at the Palazzo & Venetian. That’s great for us because we don’t have to spend money on a hotel room; we can use that money for food and entertainment, and of course some gambling. Before Garret met me in 2008, he went to Vegas and signed up for a players card at The Venetian hotel. After gambling a little bit, he started getting free room offers. So we started going, gambling some more, getting more room offers. After we decided to get married at the hotel, we went up a lot to plan the wedding. Soon we were rising up in status points and our offers were getting better. If you go to Vegas, I definitely recommend getting a players card for whatever hotel you’re at. Even gambling just a small amount can start your free rooms.
We were babies back then!
We got married at the Venetian chapel 8/21/2010
Anyway, back to Vegas with a toddler. We’ve been taking Olivia to Vegas since she was a baby. There’s tons of shops, a mall, pools, restaurants, and the strip to walk. Everything in Vegas is pretty family friendly except for being on the casino floor, that’s the one place their not allowed. Also, keep in mind parts of the strip can be a little sketchy. In the summertime we spend most of our days at the pools. Most hotels have several pools on the property and they have a separate adult only pool.
We usually eat at a restaurant for lunch because it’s less busy and easier with a toddler. For dinner we usually get food to go and eat it in the room so it doesn’t matter if Olivia misbehaves or runs around. At check-in I always request a fridge and I bring food and snacks (food pouches, cut up fruit, muffins, etc).
For anyone who drinks alcohol, I also buy my own bottle of champagne or wine and use the glasses the room provided so I don’t have to buy a lot of drinks at the bar. ($15 for a glass of champagne vs $15 for a whole bottle).
We spend a lot of time in the room too. Watch tv & movies, play with toys. This is usually when one of us stays in the room with Olivia and the other goes down and gambles….we take turns. I miss gambling together, but unless we travel with someone who watches Olivia for us for a while, this is our only option.
